Completing something really difficult is the best part of a game and having to learn how to beat the enemies and bosses is the fun part (in Odyssey every boss fight felt nearly identical). Some shortcuts eventually surface, but that does little to alleviate the annoyance of landing jumps that the game seems almost designed not to accommodate. My guess is that, as kids, everyone who played Sunshine spents days learning how to master the controls and completely forgot that there's a learning curve to it all. We judge a game negatively when it no longer seems modern instead of asking if it works within its internal logic.
